Meade County is located in western South Dakota, created in 1889 and was named for Fort Meade, a US military post in the area in 1878 that was named for General George Meade. As of 2010 according to US Census, the population was 25,434. Cities include Box Elder, Buffalo Chip, Faith, Piedmont, Sturgis and Summerset. Also home to Ellsworth Air Force Base.
